Manual collection of on-street parking fees is history in Beijing's central urban area, after five more districts in the capital, including Chaoyang and Haidian, digitalized fee collection on Monday.

Dongcheng, Xicheng and Tongzhou districts started to implement electronic on-street parking fee collection on Jan 1, covering 13,800 on-street parking spaces.

With five other districts -- Chaoyang, Haidian, Fengtai, Shijingshan and Yanqing -- following suit, another 24,000 parking spaces that allow electronic fee collection are in use.

So far, on-street parking fee collection has been digitalized in all six districts in central Beijing, namely Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chaoyang, Haidian, Fengtai and Shijingshan.

Parking spaces with the electronic fee collection function are designated by solid white lines and orange signs with parking rates posted. Manual fee collection or paying the charge by scanning a QR code will no longer be available. People who park their cars in these parking spaces are reminded not to pay the fee to anyone at the site.

Parking fee payments can be made online via the Beijing Transport app, the Beijing Transport WeChat account, city service function in WeChat or Alipay, or in cash at any branch of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and China Merchants Bank in Beijing.

Car owners need to pay parking fees within 30 days after leaving the parking space.

Beijing aims to achieve citywide electronic fee collection for on-street parking by the end of this year.
