Pharmaceutical industry

Hebei is well known for producing both traditional Chinese and Western medicines, and has a good reputation in raw materials and herbal processing. Its production of 7-ACA, oxytetracycline, penicillin and other chemicals ranks first in the world.

The output of streptomycin, vitamin B12 and anhydrous glucose ranks first in the country, while production of more than 10 kinds of preparations such as penicillin powder for injection, amoxicillin, lincomycin, cefazolin, cephradine and cephalexin ranks highest in the nation.

According to statistics from the Hebei Pharmaceutical Profession Association, the pharmaceutical industry achieved prime operating revenue of 106.91 billion yuan ($15.44 billion) in 2017, a year-on-year increase of 10.3 percent, which was six percentage points higher than the previous year.

The industry's profits in 2017 were 10.84 billion yuan, increasing by 23.3 percent year-on-year, 9.4 percentage points higher than the previous year.
