Piriya Khempon, Thai Ambassador to China, recently shared his views with China Daily website on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), tourism and China’s new foreign trade law.
Khempon compared the BRI to a door when it's open people of different countries can better communicate with each other. The BRI boosts connectivity, under which cross-border transportation, trade in goods and services, people-to-people exchanges and financial cooperation will all be enhanced.
China is the top source of foreign tourists to Thailand. Last year, the number of Chinese tourists was over 10 million, a record high. Khempon expressed his appreciation to the contribution they made to Thailand’s economy and the deeper understanding of the two peoples.
“I think the Chinese tourists are the cultural ambassadors of China who come into Thailand to know about us and let us know about them,” the ambassador said.
Khempon also talked about China’s Foreign Investment Law that will come into effect in 2020. Thailand is looking forward to its coming into force.
