Xiamen in East China's Fujian province boasted a steady growth of import and export sales with countries involved the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) from Jan to May this year.
According to Xiamen Customs, the coastal city saw its import and export sales with these countries soar to 75.88 billion yuan ($11.03 billion) in the first five months of 2019, up 2.8 percent year-on-year.
In addition, the sales reached a record high to 16.99 billion yuan in May, a year-on-year increase of 14.8 percent.
In terms of exports, the export value of mechanical and electrical products and labor-intensive products accounted for 75.9 percent of the total export value.
Regarding imports, the import of agricultural products, plastics in primary form and textiles was increased by 110 percent, 23.3 percent and 52 percent year-on-year respectively.
Xiamen's trade with Indonesia, Vietnam and Russia saw rapid growth over the same period with a respective year-on-year increase of 13.5 percent, 23 percent and 26 percent.
