Yuhang district of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province is stepping up global recruitment for local government positions as it looks to bolster government services, according to a news conference held on June 20.

The positions will be open to graduates from Peking University, Tsinghua University and other top 100 universities worldwide.

Overseas applicants are required to have professional knowledge and relevant work experience in related industries, a good command of Chinese and at least one foreign language for communication, including English.

James Moore, or Mo Zhesi in Chinese, is a US citizen who now works as a senior consultant for the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Bureau of Hangzhou Yuhang Economic and Technological Development Area.

"This is a job where opportunities and challenges co-exist. I never thought I would work for the government, but I'll contribute wherever I can," said Moore, who is responsible for meeting with large companies and incubators, attracting foreign businesses and investment, working on international projects and providing consultations on policies.

Yuhang district boasts a unique combination of listed companies, large enterprises, and startups, creating a sound environment for entrepreneurship and innovation. Moore recalled his year working for the district government, adding that he's impressed by the level of manufacturing intelligence of local companies.

Over the years, Yuhang district has introduced a number of quality projects and high-caliber talents in the areas of digital economy, biomedicine, information technology, and intelligent manufacturing, which places a high burden on government departments to provide quality services.

"Our government is in need of talent which can make services more professional and international," said an official from the district.
