Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province, organized an orienteering event in the city on June 23 – to great success. More than 3,000 people from over 10 countries around the world participated in the event.
Participants started off from the Olympic ecological park and passed by 72 landmarks – such as Shengjing Grand Theater, Shenyang Palace Museum, Liaoning Science and Technology Museum, the Industrial Museum of China and the SISYPHE bookstore in the city -- to explore the rich history and culture of Shenyang.
The sport of orienteering, which was initiated in Sweden about a century ago, sets enthusiasts the challenge of navigating to arrive at each designated site on a map.
It not only helps participants keep healthy, but also cultivates their ability to think independently, solve difficulties encountered independently, and respond quickly.
The activity in Shenyang aimed to promote the city’s history and culture to more people, and showcase its vitality and innovation to the world, according to the organizers.
