Quzhou prepares for key advances in future living

Xu Wenguang, Party secretary of Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, led a delegation to New Zealand and Australia from June 13-20 -- in a bid to learn about their advanced experiences in building so-called smart communities for the future.

The province recently released a work program on the construction of "future communities" as a major task for the current year. Officials said that the concept of future communities – with their focus on harmony, green development, intelligence and sharing – are designed to improve the quality of life of residents.

In New Zealand, Xu visited the New Zealand Belt and Road Promotion Committee. The country has reportedly introduced promising initiatives in city and community environment management, resource utilization and it has undertaken initiatives to advance harmonious relations between human beings and nature.

In Australia, Xu learned about the construction, management and operation of a sustainable city and a future community by calling on local government departments, residential communities, research institutes and startup platforms.

In Sydney, the biggest city in Australia, Xu paid a special visit downtown to the Central Park Community.

The community balances residences and apartments with commercial buildings. The Quzhou visitors were reportedly impressed by its high afforestation rate, cyclic utilization of rainwater and waste water, the green lifestyle of the residents and fenceless spaces.

Xu also visited the University of New South Wales and said he hopes to establish  long-term relations with the university -- to carry out exchanges in engineering construction, intelligent systems, sports and health care.
