Hangzhou, the capital of East China's Zhejiang province, recently unveiled a school campus covered by 5G and artificial intelligence technology, according to a news conference held on June 20.
Hangzhou Changshouqiao Primary School, covering an area of 19,808 square meters, is a public school with 24 classrooms.
"The cutting-edge technologies will be put into operation in September, making it the first intelligent school in Hangzhou covered by 5G network and artificial intelligence technology, said Jin Yin, president of the school.
Simply put, the intelligent campus aims to meet various needs for data transmission and create a safer and more intelligent campus environment for faculties, by relying on the larger bandwidth and lower latency of the 5G network.
Aside from traditional security work, the school will launch a new generation of campus security systems empowered by 5G and AI technology to detect potential hazards in key areas, provide warnings and give early responses.
With its 5G network, facial recognition technology will allow students access to the school by scanning their faces. It will also record the time when students arrive and leave campus and send the information back to their parents. For non-school staff, the system will be able to identify and notify security staff and school supervisors as soon as possible.
The "5G+AI" platform also helps teachers. With the help of cloud storage, teachers no longer need to bring a mobile hard disk drive or USB flash drive to school, but rather access all the teaching materials directly on different devices.
The 5G technology also supports cross-campus teaching and research, remote education, home-school interaction and other activities.
"The intelligent campus marks a breakthrough in future education, and we hope that it will improve the studying and life experience for our students," said Huang Wei, head of the education bureau of Xiacheng district.
