High walkways to lift Gongbei, Doumen pedestrians

A pedestrian channel now under construction above Intercity MRT Zhuhai Station Square and Changsheng Road will open in late August, connecting the station to Gongbei Mural Village. In the west, a raised walkway is proposed near Number 1 High School of Doumen.

The Intercity MRT Zhuhai Station Pedestrian Overpass is to be 150 m (164 yd) wide, 5 m (16.5 ft) wide and 5.5 m (18 ft) tall. The design calls for a fashionable transparent structure of glass and steel. 

Escalators and elevators will carry pedestrians with heavy luggage while ceilings offer shelter from the weather.

Upon completion by Zhuhai Longzhuda Group, the overpass will alleviate foot traffic at Gongbei Checkpoint Square, especially of crowds crossing the street. Meanwhile, it will serve as a major passage between Qingmao Checkpoint (New Guangdong-Macao Channel) and downtown Gongbei, according to the General Management Office of Gongbei Checkpoint.

Meanwhile, the proposed Doumen pedestrian overpass is planned for Huangyang Avenue, which serves Jintai Temple with heavy traffic. It would provide convenience and safety for students and personnel at Number 1 High School of Doumen. A planning permit has been issued by the local Branch of the Zhuhai Housing & Urban-Rural Development Bureau.
