Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture in Northeast China’s Jilin province and Shigatse city in Southwest China’s Tibet autonomous region established sister city ties on June 19.
Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture is located in Jilin province, bordering the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea and Russia. Yanbian was designated with its full name due to the large number of ethnic Koreans living in the region.
The two sides agreed to establish long-term and stable cooperation relationships and bring into play their respective advantages, to work for further development.
The signing ceremony was held on the day, during the 17th Qomolangma cultural tourism festival in Shigatse, jointly hosted by the city and Jilin province.
Following the signing ceremony, there was entertainment staged by performers from Jilin province, which included Yanbian traditional dancing, a Peking Opera performance and a symphony concert.
