The 2019 China Huinan “Longwan Cup” Chinese Chess Competitions were held in Huinan county in Northeast China’s Jilin province from June 15 to 19. More than 600 players from across the country participated.
The event was hosted by the Chinese Xiangqi (Chinese chess) Association and the government of Huinan county. It included competitions such as the national Chinese chess open and the children’s competition.
Zhang Jishun, secretary of the Huinan county committee of the CPC, said at the opening ceremony that the event provided a platform for Chinese chess players to compare skills, and he hoped that the event would help promote Huinan’s Chinese chess culture and tourist attractions to more people.
Hailed as “the home of Chinese chess”, Huinan county boasts a long history and deep roots in Chinese chess culture. It is currently home to nine chess associations with more than 9,000 registered members and over 40,000 hobbyists.
