The Xiamen University national university sci-tech park is scheduled to be put into operation within the year, according to local media reports.
The national sci-tech park is the first of its kind in Fujian province. The first phase of the park covers 192,000 square meters and has a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan ($173.87 million).
The park will integrate various social resources with the advantages of Xiamen University and seek cooperation with well-known colleges and universities, research institutes, and innovative enterprises at home and abroad.
Thus far, more than 100 enterprises have expressed their intention to start business in the park.
"The enterprises are involved in some of the most advanced technologies, such as biomedicine, medical treatment, gene therapy, and cell therapy, as well as marine ecology, new materials, new energy, artificial intelligence and big data," said Qin Yiwen, vice-general manager of the park.
In addition, the park will also be built as an innovation and entrepreneurship base for teachers and students of Xiamen University, combining talent training, scientific research and social services.
"We hope that more students from Xiamen University can start businesses in Xiamen after graduation," said Qin.
The park will not only provide basic services to start-ups, but also some value-added services to help new businesses grow.
