Sunac Resort, a cultural tourism zone set to open in Wuxi on June 29, welcomed its first round of visitors from across the country during its trial run.
The resort covers a total area of 240 hectares, with a total investment of 40 billion yuan ($5.8 billion), according to Yang Shuaihu, general manager of Wuxi Sunac Management Co.
It is comprised of eight areas, including amusement parks such as Sunac Land, Sunac Water Park, Sunac Snow Park and Sunac Ocean Park, a commercial center known as Sunac Mall, a bar street, and a cluster of hotels.
Sunac Land includes the Xiake Mountain Roller Coaster, which is the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster, with speeds of up to 118 kilometers per hour.
"I can enjoy all different kinds of roller coasters at this park," said Cai Jun, a visitor from Shanghai.
The project designs in the resort borrow from the cultural traditions of the Jiangnan area, the region south of the Yangtze River Delta.
"I saw a grand warship of King Wu in the Three Kingdoms Period (220–280) and facilities resembling Yixing clay teapots," said a visitor from Chongqing waking on a commercial street with Jiangnan characteristics.
Sunac Water Park keeps visitors cool during the hot summer months as its temperature is not affected by the climate, and it offers a variety of water activities
Visitor Xi Hui found the resort to be a good place for those traveling with kids." The park has various facilities to meet the demands of both adults and children."
Visitors also suggested some improvements that could be made to the resort. One visitor in particular suggested adding local specialized dishes to dining rooms.
The resort aims to turn Wuxi into a more desirable tourism destination, and not just a city that travelers pass through, said Yang.
Wuxi is expected to enchant tourists with more tourism resources by integrating local scenic spots with the resort.
