Shaanxi Normal University (SNNU), praised as a cradle of teachers, is a national Project 985 and Project 211 key development university. Established in 1944, the university has developed into a leading comprehensive university at home and abroad, and has cultivated more than 380,000 talents for the country. Currently the university has 17,509 full-time undergraduate students, 18,229 postgraduates and more than 1,200 international students.
Located in Xi'an, the capital city of Shaanxi province, the university has two campuses, in Yanta district and Chang'an district, covering 187 hectares. There are more than 1,800 faculty members, 94 percent of whom have doctoral and master's degrees. Among the teachers, there are four experts with outstanding contributions at the national level, six scholars enlisted in the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project, three winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and two Nationally Distinguished Teachers.
SNNU has set up 21 colleges and departments, one graduate school and a center laboratory for basic experimental education, as well as an institute of ethnic education. It has 68 undergraduate degree programs, 18 first-tier disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, and 41 master's degrees in first-tier disciplines.
Over the past five years, SNNU has conducted 1,157 scientific research projects at or above provincial or ministerial-level, including 263 projects under the National Social Science Fund of China, and 149 projects under the Ministry of Education. At the same time, it has published 775 works and 6,224 academic papers, of which 117 have won awards at or above provincial or ministerial-level.
The university attaches great importance to external technological and cultural exchanges, and has established in-depth partnerships with more than 130 colleges and universities from over 30 countries and regions, such as the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. SNNU's foreign student education began in 1965, and has trained more than 6,700 students from 103 countries.
It also actively engages in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and initiated the Teacher Education Alliance, the Humanistic and Social Sciences Alliance, and the Library, Archive and Press Alliance along the Silk Road, with the aim of promoting cultural interaction and people-to-people contacts between countries and regions involved in the BRI.
