Industrial power consumption reached 63.7 terawatt hours during the first four months this year, accounting for 71.2 percent of the city's total consumption, according a recent report released by the Hohhot Industry and Information Technology Bureau.
Hohhot industries posted a year-on-year increase of 23.7 percent in power consumption during the period, the report found.
The increase in electricity consumption came from heat production, as well as the non-metallic mineral products and medicine sectors.
According to local authorities, electricity consumption for heat production increased 4.2 terawatt hours compared with the same period a year earlier. In addition, the non-metallic mineral products sector and medicine sector saw an increase of 24.8 percent and 14.4 percent year-on-year in electricity consumption respectively.
