The number one choice for tourists to visit in Chongqing is Liberation Monument, or rather, the plaza where it stands. It is the equivalent of Times Square in New York, surrounded by flashy neon signs, giant billboards, and name-brand retailers.
First built in 1940, Jiefangbei CBD is dwarfed by skyscrapers and surrounded by pedestrian streets. It is a major landmark of Chongqing, as well as a spiritual symbol of Chinese people's fight against invaders and their great contributions to world peace.
If visitors do not come here, their visit to Chongqing will be incomplete, as the saying goes. Suffice to say, Liberation Monument has its share of tourists, while still being very popular for locals to spend time in.
The monument can be photographed from all sides and makes for great photos to prove that you were there.
Getting There: Take Metro Line 1 and get off at Jiaochangkou Station or take Metro Line 2 and get off at Linjiangmen Station.
