Heilongjiang province faces Russia, with which it shares a borderline of over 3,045 kilometers, across that river to the north. As China's sixth-largest province, Heilongjiang covers 454,800 square kilometers, accounting for 4.7 percent of the nation's land area. It has a superior location and enjoys convenient transport.
Highways
The total length of highways in the province has reached 165,989 km. Heilongjiang has constructed 4,512 km of expressways, 2,657 km of first-class highways and 11,797 km of second-class highways.
The province has 929 passenger stations and constructed 6,502 passenger traffic lines, with daily departures at an average of 21,000 and an annual average daily passenger throughput of 561,000. It has also opened 32 international passenger transport routes and 34 freight routes.
Waterways
The province has 5,495 km of channels. The main rivers in Heilongjiang province include the Heilongjiang, Songhua, Wusuli and Nen rivers, with the Heilongjiang running 1,861 km, the Songhua 928 km, the Wusuli 455 km and the Nen 950 km. The province also has Xingkai Lake and Jingpo Lake.
The province has 17 ports, 154 wharfs and berths, with 15 ports open to the outside world, and an annual comprehensive capacity of 14.47 million tons and 6.73 million people. In 2017, the volume of waterway passengers reached 3.41 million and passenger turnover reached 37.84 million km, cargo volume reached 11.1 million tons and cargo turnover reached 705.53 million tons, with the annual port throughput reaching 13.51 million tons.
Waterways in Heilongjiang province link nine cities, 55 counties (or banners) as well as more than 70 farms and forest farms in Heilongjiang province, Jilin province and Inner Mongolia autonomous region, as well as big cities such as Khabarovsk and Blagoveshchensk in Russia. Combined with maritime transport, waterways in Heilongjiang can directly reach Japan, South Korea, southeast Asian countries as well as China's southeast coastal ports.
Airports
Heilongjiang province has 13 airports: Harbin Taiping International Airport, Qiqihar Sanjiazi International Airport, Mudanjiang Hailang International Airport, Jiamusi Dongjiao Airport, Daqing Saertu Airport and Yichun Lindu Airport, Jiagedaqi Gaxian Airport, Heihe Aihui Airport, Jixi Xingkaihu Airport, Mohe Gulian Airport, Fuyuan Dongji Airport, Jiansanjiang Shidi Airport and Wudalianchi Dedu Airport.
Harbin Taiping International Airport is the hub airport for the province and one of the three busiest international airports in Northeast China (the other two are Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport and Shenyang Taoxian International Airport).
