People's Hospital unveils path-breaking transfusion device

Putuo People's Hospital has recently introduced a new kind of transfusion device and successfully piloted many cases to make treatment more convenient and relieve patients' pain.

The port device is implanted under the skin and can stay there for more than 38 years or even longer without harming a patient's life.

It can be used for medicine injection, liquid supplement, nutrition support and blood transfusion.

This latest technology has a low risk of infection, reduces the times for vein puncture and is simple to maintain, Wu Lei, deputy director of the hospital's anesthesiology department, revealed.

Maintenance for the device has to be done once a month and it requires a replacement once in seven days and is currently used mainly for patients with malignant tumors.
