Xiamen University (XMU) recently received approval to set up a National Integrated Circuits (IC) Industry-Education Innovation Platform from the Ministry of Education, local media reported on June 13.
The innovation platform will be dedicated to the research and development of new-generation IC, including chip design, EDA tools, device manufacturing and chip packaging.
University officials said that its School of Electronic Science and Engineering will play a key role in the construction of the platform.
Three other top Chinese universities -- Tsinghua, Peking and Fudan -- will also participate in the construction of the platform.
XMU boasts rich experience in teaching electronics and was one of the first universities in China to establish a semiconductor discipline.
