Xiamen offers customized bus service

A total of 14 routes for customized buses are now available in Xiamen, Fujian province, according to Xiamen Public Transport Group.

The city launched its first customized bus in 2016.

Commuters can book bus tickets and choose their desired route in advance on the app "Handheld Bus".

The one-person-one-seat buses take passengers from their starting point to their destination in a shorter time than regular buses by avoiding traffic jams during rush hours.

All the buses running on the 14 customized routes boast more than a 95 percent occupancy rate.

The Xiamen Public Transport Group has been dedicated to diversifying bus services, creating commuting routes between universities and train stations, temporary airport routes and customized buses for business events, says Fu Junjie, the person in charge of the service.
