Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, Guizhou province has achieved historic progress in its economic growth, according to a press conference held in Guiyang by the information office of Guizhou province on June 5.

Guizhou's GDP has risen from 623 million yuan ($90.12 million) in 1949 to 1.48 trillion yuan in 2018, ranking 25th in China. The per capita GDP in Guizhou reached 41,244 yuan in 2018, which is 937 times more than that in 1949. It ranks 29th in China.

The total revenue in Guizhou increased from 28 million yuan in 1950 to 297.34 billion yuan in 2018, achieving breakthroughs in economic development, as well as improvement in people's livelihoods and public service.

The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents in Guizhou increased from 236 yuan and 48 yuan in 1962 to 31,592 yuan and 9,716 yuan respectively in 2018.

Through poverty alleviation efforts, 7.68 million people in rural areas have managed to rise out of poverty from 2013 to 2018, which has made the poverty-stricken population decrease to 1.55 million people in 2018.

In addition, Guizhou strives to overcome the disadvantage of its geographical environment and weak economic base by making efforts in infrastructure construction.

In 2015, Guizhou became the first province with expressways connecting every county in west China, and the total length of expressways reached 6,453 kilometers.

Guizhou has also seen significant achievements in its ecological environment protection efforts. The forest coverage in Guizhou increased from 22.8 percent in 1975 to 57 percent in 2018, and the green economy occupied 40 percent of Guizhou's GDP, which is 11.6 percentage points higher than that in 2012.
