The city of Guangzhou signed a cooperation agreement with China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) on June 3 to boost the city's ship and ocean engineering industries.
Zhang Shuofu, Party chief of Guangzhou, Wen Guohui, mayor of Guangzhou, Lei Fanpei, chairman of CSSC, and Yang Jincheng, general manager of CSSC, attended the contract signing ceremony.
According to the agreement, the two parties will build a smart ocean innovation institute in Guangzhou.
According to Zhang, the ship and ocean engineering industries are key components of Guangzhou's industries. The cooperation between CSSC and Guangzhou will help the southern Chinese city optimize its layout of strategic emerging industries, facilitate its advanced manufacturing, and accelerate Guangzhou's implementation of the Outline Development Plan of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, playing a positive role in promoting Guangzhou's industrial transformation and upgrading.
He said he hoped that both sides will promote cooperation in areas such as scientific and technological innovation, marine economy, and military-civilian integration to achieve mutually beneficial results.
Lei expressed his thanks to Guangzhou for its support to his company, and noted that he is confident that CSSC will help Guangzhou boost the development of ship and ocean engineering industries, building a modern industrial system.
The agreement mainly encompasses high-end ship and sea equipment manufacturing, the construction of a marine science and technology city, marine pollution prevention, and construction on a smart marine innovation research institute.
