Shandong Provincial Chest Hospital, built in 1949, has been developed into a specialized hospital with functions of medical treatment, teaching and training, scientific research, disease prevention, and health care.
As a national 3A-grade hospital, the hospital is also the affiliated hospital of Shandong University, and the provincial research center for tuberculosis and respiratory diseases. It is the province's designated hospital for major respiratory infectious diseases.
The hospital currently has two campuses and covers a combined floor area of more than 40,000 square meters, with over 1,000 patient beds. It employs more than 1,200 staff members, of which over 140 have senior titles.
Centered on respiratory diseases, the hospital has established a professional system, while the tuberculosis, respiratory and critical medicine and the chest surgery are listed as provincial key specialties.
The Katharine Hsu International Research Center of Human Infectious Diseases (KICID) was jointly set up by the hospital, the Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention of Shandong Province, and Baylor College of Medicine in the United States in 2004, becoming a platform for the hospital's international exchanges and cooperation.
