Beijing-based Unisound Co announced the opening of its artificial intelligence supercomputing platform in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, on June 5.
With a total investment of 100 million yuan ($14.47 million), the platform began construction in January 2018 and will be completed by December 2020.
To date, the first phase of the project is nearly complete, capable of performing 7.18 petaflops/s, making it the most powerful computing platform in Fujian.
Huang Wei, founder of Unisound, noted that computing power is one of the key elements for the future development of the AI industry.
Huang added that as the world enters the 5G era, more data is expected to be produced, which will require more powerful computing.
The platform will perform 10 petaflops/s in three years, according to Huang.
Now open to universities and small and medium-sized enterprises in need of intensive computing, the supercomputing power of the platform will offer services in machine training and application verification in the fields of smart home, medical wisdom, intelligent manufacturing and machine translation.
Roughly 1,000 local traditional businesses will achieve upgrading and transformation with the help of the platform, bringing in an annual output of about 100 million yuan.
