The most common answer to why they chose Suzhou was that it was the various projects based in Suzhou that led them to the city. The Suzhou government has introduced many high-tech projects, such as Visionox Co, an enterprise focusing on OLED technology developed by an incubation project run by Tsinghua University.

Professor Li from South Korea has been working for the company for almost three years. He said that the company's great potential brought him to Suzhou.

"It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in the establishment of such an international university," said Zach Fredman, a professor at Duke Kunshan University.

When they come to the city, the pleasant and safe living environment inspires them to remain. Georgios Sergiadis, a visiting professor of SIBET, said: "Suzhou is not so crowded compared to Shanghai. It offers a good quality of life. I can find plenty of delicious food here and I like wandering around Moon Harbor in my spare time."

In recent years, advanced technology has seen rapid development in Suzhou. Take Innovent Biologics as an example. This company, which focuses on developing new drugs, was established in 2011. On Oct 31, 2018, it was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Such a skyrocketing development pace is a typical reflection of Suzhou's great potential.

Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics is also a good example. Centered at the institute, a cluster of nanotech firms has been founded, ensuring the full transformation of research achievements. Under such circumstances, it is no wonder Nicola D’Ascenzo, an engineer from Raycan, proudly said: "I am a strong supporter of Chinese technology."

Also, a flock of preferential government policies is another aspect that appeals to foreign talents. The process of applying for a work permit is smooth. "It’s much more convenient than in Shanghai," one expat said. In addition, the local government organizes frequent international activities, including Suzhou International Day, to offer better services to expats living in the city.

Suzhou, a perfect combination of traditional Chinese culture and a modern economy, is embracing a bright future. More stories of Suzhou will be heard on the international stage in years to come.
