As a core driver in the regional development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the city of Guangzhou has become one of top choices for an increasing number of Taiwan youth to study, intern, work, and start up a business.
As a result, the southern Chinese metropolis has been striving to offer more convenience to young people from Taiwan.
In 2018, the city released 60 measures to encourage college students from Taiwan to come to Guangzhou for internships and employment, providing them with no less than 1,200 jobs and 300 internships each year, as well as subsidies. The policies also enable Taiwan youth to enjoy equal rights as Guangzhou citizens in specific areas.
On May 30, 2019, Guangzhou launched a special action plan to offer overall support for youth from Hong Kong and Macao who seek further development in the Guangdong province capital. Young people from Taiwan seeking further development are also covered by the policy and will be entitled to equal treatment.
Since 2015, Guangzhou has established a number of entrepreneurial bases for young people from Taiwan, covering high-tech, e-commerce, biomedicine, art and animation, as well as other fields, providing a full range of support and services for the development of Taiwan youth.
The Guangdong capital has also held an internship experience activity for Taiwan youth for three consecutive years, attracting more than 1,100 university students from the island.
The city has been engaged in a range of youth innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, which Taiwan youth can join and showcase their talents.
Since 2018, Guangzhou has welcomed more than 50 youth innovation teams and projects from Taiwan, offering over 600 internship vacancies for youth from the island. By the end of 2018, more than 50 Taiwan residents received a "Talent Green Card" in Guangzhou.
