Preparations for construction started in 1963 and Guilin Museum opened to the public in November 1988, which was the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The building of the new museum began construction in 2010, and was put into operation in 2017.
With a collection of more than 30,000 cultural relics, the museum occupies a floor area of 34,000 square meters, with its exhibition hall covering 12,000 sq m. It is a comprehensive museum with 12 exhibition halls, including displays of Guilin’s culture and history, a folk culture display, the Legacy of the Jingjiang Princes, and Friendship of Guilin, providing visitors with a platform to explore the profound past of Guilin.
