The Fangchenggang Proclamation was released on May 28, in which member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) pledged to advance medical innovation and cooperation with enhanced exchanges.
It was part of the outcomes of the International Medical Innovation and Cooperation Forum that concluded in Fangchenggang, South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region that same day.
The forum, which revolved around the theme of "health, cooperation, innovation, and sharing - to construct an innovative, cooperative, and sharing medical platform under the SCO framework," was attended by SCO government officials, elite businessmen, and scholars, as well as representatives from the Philippines and Ukraine.
As stated in the proclamation, wide consensus was reached on issues related to disaster relief, disease prevention and control, medical services, health management, medical staff exchanges, medical education, and scientific research.
Yu Hongjun, former deputy minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, cited the proclamation as an international commitment to shoulder the responsibility of human health.
Jayaseelan Jaganathan, chairman of the Indian Drug Manufacturers' Association, said that China's medical market is growing rapidly with enormous market opportunities. He hoped that the articles in the proclamation would greatly benefit SCO enterprises and residents.
