A food processing project was signed into action in the Ordos Comprehensive Bonded Zone located in the Ordos Airport Logistics Park in Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on May 23.

The agreement was signed by Shi Zhanjun, deputy director of the management committee of the Ordos Airport Logistics Park, and Zhao Jianbo, general manager of Hexingli (Shanghai) Industrial Co Ltd.

Other attendees of the signing ceremony included Yu Renjie, vice-mayor of Ordos, Wang Sheng, deputy secretary-general of Ordos, Zhang Tao, director of the Ordos Commerce Bureau, Bian Dong, director of the management committee of the Ordos Airport Logistics Park, Wang Yiyang, deputy director of Ordos Customs, and Yang Liping, chairman of Hexingli (Shanghai) Industrial Co Ltd.

The project received 150 million yuan ($21.75 million) in investment and is focused on providing services for the deep processing of buckwheat, product development, and warehousing.

According to the agreement, a 21,000-square-meter factory will be built at the Ordos Comprehensive Bonded Zone for deep processing and storing buckwheat, and a 2,000-square-meter biotechnology research center will also be established in the zone.

The factory will import buckwheat from Russia and export it to countries in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the United States after deep processing.

The factory is expected to generate no less than 500 million yuan in annual revenue, and the total value of its imports and exports is expected to exceed $10 million.

The project is also expected to provide jobs for at least 100 local residents.

The comprehensive bonded area is a special customs supervision area that serves as a bonded port area for inland areas. Like bonded port areas, it is also a special zone with a high level of openness, generous preferential policies, high-quality infrastructure, and streamlined procedures.

Ordos started applying for approval to build a comprehensive bonded zone at the end of 2012. In 2017, the State Council approved the construction of the zone, the first comprehensive bonded zone in the Ordos-Baotou-Hohhot urban agglomeration.

The Ordos Comprehensive Bonded Zone has an area of 1.21 square kilometers and is located in the Ordos Airport Logistics Park. Over the next three to five years, Ordos aims to build the bonded zone into an important international logistics distribution center, a transaction center for bulk commodities, and a processing center for the manufacturing industry.

The Ordos Comprehensive Bonded Zone hopes to reach $2 billion in foreign trade by the end of 2020.
