A delegation of 11 representatives from mainstream media in Turkey visited Xiamen from May 19 to 21 to learn about the economic and social achievements made by China since its establishment in 1949.

Li Xiaoping, director of Xiamen's Foreign Affairs Office, briefed them on the city's latest economic and social development at a dinner meeting.

The Turkish journalists asked questions about direct flights between Turkey and Xiamen as well as the their exchanges in economy, education and sports, expecting more cooperation with the city.

During their stay in Xiamen, they visited Xiamen ITG Holding Group Co, the Xiamen International Cruise Center and Xiamen University.

The head of the delegation was deeply impressed by what was heard and seen in the Chinese city, and he invited leaders of Xiamen University to publish signed articles in a periodical managed by him so as to spread the university's reputation in their country and attract more Turkish students to study in the city.

Turkey was one of the original members of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the "Trans-Caspian East-West Middle Corridor", also known as the "Middle Corridor" put forward by the country, is similar to China's Belt and Road Initiative.

In January 2018, Turkish city Izmir established sister-city relations with Xiamen, becoming the Chinese city's 20th sister city in the process.
