Youyu county, in northern Shanxi province, launched an international watercolor art week on May 21.
Organizers invited 19 noted painters from eight countries -- including Russia, the United Kingdom, Australia and Brazil and 40 domestic watercolor artists -- to demonstrate improvised work, provide sketches, and give commentary, lectures and engage in other forms of communications.
Artists are giving free lessons to watercolor art enthusiasts every day. All artworks displayed during the week-long event will be auctioned to the public, with 50 percent of the auction to be donated to local residents.
In addition, shows featuring the folk customs of the county are being staged during the art week.
