The second Houyi Cup National Archery Challenge-- which took place in Gaoping county, Shanxi province on May 19 and 20 – saw stiff and exciting competition.
The archery tournament, hosted by Chinese Archery Association and Gaoping government, consisted of four programs with 96 athletes participating.
The event was a part of the fourth Cross-Straits Yan Emperor Economic, Trade, Cultural and Tourism promotion series. Oganizers said it aimed to promote the traditional culture of archery and the wider integration of culture, sports and tourism.
Archery has deep roots in Gaoping, with many tales about mythological Chinese archer Houyi that have been handed down for centuries in the region and there are seven well-preserved temples worshiping Houyi.
