Mandula Port in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, reported strong growth in the first four months of 2019, with the total value of imports and exports passing through the port coming in at 1.09 billion yuan ($158 million), reports the Baotou Daily.
Officials said the figure represented year-on-year growth of 121.45 percent.
The volume of import trade hit 1.07 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 146.52 percent. The volume of export volume, however, hit 29 million yuan, for a year-on-year decrease of 53.22 percent.
With the aim of branching out into new types of trade, the port has constructed a special border trade zone, and will focus on making it a center for imports of meat.
Work has now started on railway logistics parks, port-specific container logistics parks, and a port transit processing project.
