The sixth International Conference on Data Science was held at Ningbo University, East China's Zhejiang province, from May 17 to 19, where more than 100 experts and scholars from home and abroad engaged in inspiring discussions about data science and smart city construction.
The conference, hosted by the Research Center on Fictitious Economy & Data Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, not only provides a platform for communication between companies, government departments and research institutions across the world, but also displays the latest global research results in the computer science field.
Futian Town, an industrial park co-established by governments of the city's Haishu district and Shiqi sub-district, and the local comprehensive enterprise group Futian Group, was unveiled at a sub-forum of the conference in Shiqi sub-district on May 18.

Ningbo Airport Area, a major part of the town, was also launched that day. Seventeen scientific and technological companies have settled in the area to date.
Ningbo is the first city in China to have systematically planned for smart city construction and intelligent economy. According to its five-year plan for digital economic development, the city's digital economy is projected to account for more than 45 percent of the regional GDP by 2022.
