Nantong blue calico has stolen the spotlight during the 2019 China Graduate Fashion Week held in Beijing from May 13 to 19.
A total of 70 designs divided into 15 categories by fashion design graduates from the Jiangsu College of Engineering and Technology (JCET) were on display, demonstrating a combination of ancient dyeing techniques and modern design concepts.
Organized by the China Fashion Association, the China Textile and Apparel Education Society, and the China National Garment Association, the fashion week is held in Beijing every year in late April.
This year’s event consists of 83 activities, including work release conferences, exhibitions, forums, and design competitions.
A total of 1,716 graduates from 47 universities and colleges from throughout China, South Korea, and the United Kingdom took part in the event.
JCET, which evolved out of a textile dyeing school founded by Zhang Jian in 1912, is a national pioneer in the teaching of textile techniques. The school has cultivated thousands of professionals for the country’s textile and apparel industries.
