Founded in 1958, Guangdong Pharmaceutical University (GDPU) is one of the three pharmaceutical universities in China. It was the first institution in South China to offer a major in pharmacy. It has five campuses in Guangzhou (University City, Chigang, and Baogang), Zhongshan and Yunfu. It covers a total area of 5,300 mu (353.33 hectares) and has a total construction area of 764,337 square meters. It has 19 colleges (ministers) and two direct affiliated 3A-grade hospitals. Currently it has more than 22,000 full-time undergraduate, graduate and international students.
GDPU has 47 undergraduate majors, including three national specialty majors in pharmacy, pharmaceutical preparations and preventative medicine, and 10 provincial specialties, such as Chinese pharmacy, clinical medicine, and information management and systems. It has 24 national and provincial quality open courses. Moreover, GDPU has established 44 national and provincial platforms, and a complete R&D and innovation system for chemical, biological and Chinese medicine.

The university has 1,614 faculty members, including 1,142 full-time teachers, 81.08 percent of whom have master's and doctoral degrees, 45.3 percent of whom are senior professional and technical personnel, and 297 who are doctoral master's supervisors.

GDPU has established cooperation and exchanges with more than 40 institutions of higher learning and scientific research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions, engaging in joint scientific research cooperation, personnel training, academic exchanges and teacher training. At present, there are more than 400 foreign students studying in the university, from more than 40 countries and regions such as the United States, France, Russia, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
GDPU also provides Chinese language courses and study guidance for international students who come to study Chinese culture and related majors. The college conducts and promotes teaching Chinese as a foreign language and meets the needs of international students for learning the language and understanding the culture.
In addition, international students that come to GDPU can apply for scholarships. For new undergraduate students, GDPU offers a scholarship of 5,000 yuan ($727.98) for high-achieving senior high school graduates to complete a full degree at GDPU. For current undergraduate students, GDPU offers a scholarship of 2,000 to 5,000 yuan for excellent students every year. For language students, GDPU offers 2,000 yuan per year for tuition fee remission for the international students who study the Chinese language for more than half a year and then transfer to study degree courses in GDPU. Meanwhile excellent students can apply for the Scholarship of Guangdong province (up to 10,000 yuan).
