New expressway links Harbin to Daqing

An expressway linking the city of Daqing to Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang province, will start construction in August, according to information released by the Department of Transport in Heilongjiang province on May 8.

The expressway will be around 120 kilometers long. It will run from the Jiangbei New Zone in Harbin, passing through Suihua and Zhaodong, before finally arriving in Daqing's Zhaoyuan county.

Officials said construction work of the expressway will last three years and when it starts operating in 2021 it will provide a fast route between the two destinations, cutting the journey time from Zhaoyuan county to Harbin from more than 3 hours to around 1 hour.

They added that it is also expected to help boost the development of the southeastern area of Daqing, with more convenient transport links boosting its agriculture and tourism.
