The 5G test networks across 14 cities in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region have all began operation, allowing companies and institutions to explore innovative applications in areas such as AR/VR transmission and smart city construction.
This marks another major step for Guangxi's efforts towards 5G commercialization since the Guangxi Branch of China Mobile took the lead in the region to launch technological tests on wide-scale 5G networks and to carry out 5G research in 2018.
The company is now devoted to the establishment of a 5G digitalized industrial alliance, as well as pushing forward the in-depth integration of 5G with agriculture, education, livelihood services, transportation, and medical treatment. It is estimated there will be nearly 10,000 5G base stations throughout Guangxi by 2020.
To date, the region has already saw successful 5G-related applications in telecommunications, remote surgery, unmanned driving, smart manufacturing, smart transport management, and live streaming of large events.
