China's heavy truck engines and components developer Weichai Group launched a cooperation project with Russia-based Kamaz in Beijing on May 14.
Tan Xuguang, chairman of Weichai Group, and Sergey Kogogin, general manager of Kamaz Group, signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties.
As early as Sept 2018, the two companies signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement in Vladivostok, Russia.
They planned to establish the joint venture Kamaz Weichai Co in a free trade zone in the Yaroslavl region, which specializes in the production and sales of industrial diesel and natural gas engines. They also planned to seek further cooperation in areas such as gearboxes and axles.
The cooperation will inject "China power" into local economic development.
Taking advantage of the Belt and Road Initiative, Weichai has been increasing its efforts in "going out" in recent years, and has explored new models of international capacity cooperation and local manufacturing in India, Myanmar, Ethiopia and Belarus.
Russia is an important economic and trade partner of China in Northeast Asia and an important part of the Belt and Road Initiative. Through years of hard work, the brand of Weichai and its products have won the favor of local Russian customers.
Kamaz is the largest manufacturer of heavy duty trucks in Russia. It has a 50-year history of heavy-duty vehicle manufacturing and an annual production of more than 40,000 sets.
Weichai, after more than 70 years of development, has developed an industry chain resource covering heavy trucks, engines, gearboxes and axles. In this regard, the two sides have broad cooperation space.
The signing of the cooperation agreement in Beijing marks the official launch of the cooperation project between the two parties.
Under the guidance of China's Belt and Road Initiative, the story of Weichai and Kamaz is about to be staged.
