Two warehouses for Chinese e-commerce giant JD, located in Harbin, Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, were completed and began operating on May 1, two months ahead of schedule.
The warehouses are part of a JD logistics park, which is being built in the Pingfang Economic and Technological Development Zone.
The JD park will be largest business-to-customer (B2C) logistics park and have the most heavily-automated business operations in Asia.
According to information from JD, the logistics park project will cover an area of around 190,000 square meters and have a total of 15 buildings. Buildings 1 to 5 will be used for warehousing and distribution, while buildings 6 to 15 will be used for accommodation and support facilities.
By introducing the most advanced automatic access systems, high-speed automatic sorting, and internet of things technology, the facility is expected to deliver highly-competitive services to customers.
In addition, robots will be used for sorting, distribution, and loading, which is expected to be highly efficient and save on time and money.
The park's service area will cover all of Heilongjiang province and its neighboring regions. Customers living in the downtown area of Harbin will be able to receive goods within half a day after placing an order.
The logistics park is expected to provide around 3,000 jobs and generate 1 billion yuan ($150.64 million) in tax revenue for the local government.
Based on the project's current progress, construction on the logistic park will be completed by the end of 2019 and the whole facility will begin operating in April 2020.
