Xiaoshan district of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province is looking to build itself into a highland for biomedical industry with the landing of major healthcare projects in the Xianghu Healthcare Summit 2019 on May 9.
Experts and scholars from renowned overseas universities such as Cambridge University, University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Sydney gathered to share insights on issues including cross-border innovation and cooperation of pharmaceutical industry, opportunities and challenges of online medical care, latest trends of innovative drugs, medical entrepreneurship and investment.
The Berkeley campus of the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS), a research institute operated by the University of California (UC) was announced to settle in Xiaoshan.
With four major campuses at UC Berkeley, Davis, Merced and Santa Cruz, the institute is designed to create information technology solutions for many of the world's most pressing social, environmental and healthcare problems by leveraging the research strength of four UC campuses.
The event also witnessed the signing of four other biotechnology projects.
As one of the most dynamic emerging industries in the world, biomedicine has become a hotspot for global competition. Xiaoshan district will strive to cultivate healthcare industry and turn it into a new growth engine for the regional economic development.
