Zhang Yuxi, a resident from Xiayi county, Henan province, was given about 1.21 million yuan ($177,596) in state compensation after being acquitted of a charge of intentional injury in January.
Xu Xin, Zhang's lawyer, provided a judicial document from the county's court to media on Thursday, which showed the compensation decision was made on April 30 and contained more than 250,000 yuan for Zhang's mental anguish and more than 950,000 yuan for wrongful detention.
Zhang said he was satisfied with the compensation and would use the money to buy a house in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan, for his son.
Zhang was involved in a dispute in 1992 with another resident, Zhang Gongshe, which led to violent scuffles between members of the two families. Zhang Gongshe's father, Zhang Chaoming, was rendered unconscious during the fight and then died.
Zhang Yuxi was later detained and prosecuted on the charge of intentional injury.
The county's court sentenced him to 11 years in prison for the charge in May 1997. Zhang Yuxi appealed to higher court.
Five months later, the intermediate people's court in Shangqiu, a city in Henan, withdrew the original judgement for insufficient evidence and sent the case back to the county's court for rehearing.
But the case had not been retried until July last year.
On Jan 29, the county's court announced Zhang Yuxi "not guilty", and Zhang applied for more than 3.77 million yuan in compensation in March.
"Although the final compensation is far from my expectation, I could accept the amount," Zhang Yuxi said, adding he would not be busy with the case anymore.
