The city of Baotou, located in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, welcomed 1.34 million tourists during the four-day holiday period which ran from May 1-4, representing year-on-year growth of 13.8 percent, according to a report in the Baotou Daily.
Total tourism revenue hit 699 million yuan ($103 million), for a year-on-year increase of 16.5 percent.
Officials said tourists to the city mostly preferred taking short tours of the local area, with stops at major tourist attractions such as Wudang Lamasery and the Meidai Monastery, as well as the Chilechuan, Nanhai Wetland and Shimen scenic areas.
To maintain a safe and orderly environment for tourists, the city introduced extra security patrols and inspections at key tourist attractions, with special arrangements initiated to ensure that adequate numbers of officials were on duty to handle complaints over the holiday period.
