Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC) was established in 1964 and was one of the four earliest tumor hospitals in China. It is one of the largest oncology bases in the country integrating medical treatment, teaching, research and prevention.
SYSUCC is a modern medical service provider with 2,758 employees, 1,488 ward beds, 35 clinical departments, eight administrative offices and two research departments. It provides a comprehensive range of healthcare services for cancer diagnosis and treatment including surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, interventional therapy, immunotherapy, gene therapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Since 1964, SYSUCC has operated a national cancer clinical medicine training class, which has trained more than 5,000 oncology professionals. It has established 10 national resident standardized training professional bases and one collaborative professional base. The total number of students enrolled has exceeded 400.
In 2003, SYSUCC became a sister institution of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) -- a top-ranking cancer research institute and hospital in the United States. SYSUCC also has numerous international partners, including the Karolinska Institutet, the University of Warwick and the Erasmus Medical Center.
