Guangzhou Hui'ai Hospital (Guangzhou Brain Hospital) was the first psychiatric hospital in China. It was founded by John Kerr, a US doctor, in 1898. The hospital covers more than 80,000 square meters and is divided into Fangcun General Hospital, Jiangcun Campus and Liwan Clinic. The hospital has been responsible for mental health education and rehabilitation in Guangzhou, and across Guangdong province and South China.

The hospital has more than 1,200 employees, including more than 900 medical technicians, among whom 150 have senior technical titles, 250 have intermediate technical titles, and nearly 200 are medical doctors and masters. 

The hospital has 1,920 beds and 18 business management organizations. It is one of the five basic psychiatric resident standardized training bases in China. It is a teaching hospital for many universities including Guangzhou Medical University, Zhongshan University, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Southern Medical University.

The hospital focuses on the development of affective disorders, geriatric psychiatry, adult psychiatry, early intervention, children's psychiatry and neurosurgery. It has vigorously strengthened the construction of clinical psychology and established a psychological counseling center, a psychological decompression center, and psychosomatic diseases and neurosis wards to meet the service needs of a large number of psychological disorders and psychosomatic diseases. The service population covers psychological disorders in people from children to the elderly, from mild to severe, from acute to chronic.
