Construction on new facilities recently began at Harbin Polarland in Harbin, capital city of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, on April 29.
Harbin Polarland is China's first polar animal performance park, famous for its seven themed beluga, sea lion, walrus, polar bear, and penguin performances.
A show field, a polar bear house, a penguin house, a whale pavilion, and a commercial street will be built in the park. The project will cost around 800 million yuan.
The prestigious New Zealand E+A Architecture Firm will be in charge of planning and design, while landscape design will be the responsibility of Miyajima Shuji, an environmental design expert from Japan.
The new facilities are designed to look like a whale when viewed from the air. The park is expected to receive around 2 million visitors per year, generating an income of 350 million yuan.
