In 2018, Jiangsu’s investment in transport infrastructure construction reached 119.74 billion yuan ($17.77 billion), with 42.26 billion yuan of that amount designated for railways.

By the end of 2018, the length of highways opened to traffic in Jiangsu province had reached 160,000 kilometers including 4,710 km of expressways. Also, 550 km national and provincial highways were renovated along with 4,838 km of rural roads. The coverage rate of two-lane roads in administrative villages reached 97.9 percent.

The total length of Jiangsu’s railway network reached 3,014 km, with 1,811 km for high-speed trains. Five railway projects were completed: including the Lianyungang-Yancheng railway, the Qingdao-Yancheng Railway and the second phase of the Nanjing-Qidong Railway.

Intercity railway construction in city clusters alongside the Yangtze River has won State approval and the construction of railways in southern Jiangsu area along the Yangtze River and Yancheng-Nantong Railway has started.

The total length of inland waterways in Jiangsu has reached 24,400 km and the length of waterways above level 4 climbed to 3,147 km.

Currently Jiangsu has built 14 pathways across the Yangtze River.

Jiangsu has established an overall layout formed by nine transport airports. The number of general aviation aerodromes in the province has hit 10. The reconstruction and extension of Terminal 1 at Nanjing Lukou International Airport will be accelerated along with the renovation of Sunan Shuofang International Airport in Wuxi. Yancheng Nanyang Airport’s Terminal 2 has been put into operation.

As a province benefiting from its coastal location, Jiangsu has five of the 25 major coastal ports nationwide.

By the end of 2018, Jiangsu had 5,480 productive berths and 497 berths capable of handling shipments above 10,000 tons.

The comprehensive capacity of Jiangsu’s ports reached 2 billion tons and container capacity reached 16.14 million twenty-foot container equivalent units (TEU).

The cargo handling capacity of Jiangsu ports reached 2.58 billion tons. The cargo handling capacity of eight ports each went over 100 million tons. Those were the ports of Suzhou, Lianyungang, Nanjing, Nantong, Taizhou, Jiangyin, Zhenjiang and Yangzhou.
