North China's Hohhot and Mongolia's Selenge province are currently in the process of establishing official ties.

A letter of intent to develop a sister city relationship was signed by Feng Yuzhen, mayor of Hohhot, and Sh. Orgil, governor of Selenge, during a signing ceremony held in Hohhot on April 29.

Hohhot, a city in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been building close relationships with Mongolia since 2009. The two sides have carried out fruitful exchanges in agriculture, husbandry, education, and business.

Feng said that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and China, something that is highly valued by the municipal government.

He stressed that Hohhot is willing to strengthen cooperation with Selenge province to work toward common growth, adding that the letter of intent signals the start of a new era in relations between the two parties.

During the ceremony, Sh. Orgil said he was happy to be visiting Hohhot for the second time.

He also said that Selenge was one of the Mongolian provinces invited to attend the second Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation, which concluded on April 27. He also said that Selenge is a thriving agricultural province in Mongolia.

Lastly, he expressed hope that Hohhot and Selenge would extend cooperation in certain sectors, particularly agriculture and husbandry.
