The Berklee College of Music has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Shenzhen Qianhai Administration Bureau and Shenzhen Hezong Culture Group to build a future music center in Shenzhen, local authorities said on Friday.
Located in Qianhai, the center will integrate contemporary music production, education, research and performances and further enhance the international influence of Shenzhen's cultural and creative industries, said the bureau.
Berklee will combine its own characteristics with Shenzhen's innovations and creativity and Qianhai's institutional advantages to provide more world-class and diverse cultural products, so as to attract more young musicians to Shenzhen and enhance the city's international cultural influence, according to Susan E. Whitehead, chair of the Berklee College of Music board.
Berklee College of Music is one of the most prestigious institutes of contemporary music and the performing arts, with 283 Grammy winners, 89 Latin Grammy winners, five Oscar winners and 19 Emmy winners among its students, faculty and alumni.
