Shaoxing seeks integrated development with Hangzhou

An event focusing on the integrated development of Shaoxing and Hangzhou in East China's Zhejiang province kicked off in Hangzhou on April 28, gathering nearly 600 established experts, scholars and business figures from two cities to discuss cooperation and seek common development.

The three-day 2019 Hangzhou Shaoxing Week features a host of activities showcasing the culture, history, economy and science of Shaoxing.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Ma Weiguang, Party secretary of Shaoxing, introduced the economic and social development of the city and a series of measures to promote integration with Hangzhou.

He said that the two places are inextricably linked due to their geographical location, people-to-people and economic exchanges, and interconnected industrial chains.

"The number of personnel exchanges between Shaoxing and Hangzhou was more than 300,000 last year, and more and more people now work in Hangzhou while living in Shaoxing," Ma said, adding that Shaoxing will take active measures to integrate with its neighbor city.

Over the years, Shaoxing and Hangzhou have formed a "one-hour economic circle" by leveraging their industrial and resource advantages, according to Wang Hong, vice mayor of Hangzhou, who hopes the two cities can seize the opportunity and boost bilateral cooperation to a higher level.

A group of projects were signed after the opening ceremony.
